The last one was still pretty entertaining!

ROYALTY FIGHTING ENTERTAINMENT

Grand Casino • Saturday PRO

145 -- Melvin Blumer def. Bruce Johnson by submission due to guillotine choke at 1:11 of first round.

- Johnson took this fight on a day and a half notice, and cut 17 pounds while working at his full time job. All fighters should take notes. Johnson has heart. He also has a TKO win over UFC vet Pat Schilling that for some stupid reason isn't recognized. As for the fight itself, Johnson fired off a very nice knee, but Blumer showed good resilence before getting the fight to the ground, where he showed very solid skills and secured a nice sub to grab the win. Pay attention to the Minnesota Bash Brothers, Melvin and Marvin, you will be seeing both in either the UFC or Bellator when its all said and done. Couldn't happen to nicer guys either.

135 -- Dan Wales def. Rocco Maggiore by submission due to strikes at :58 of second round.

- Wales showed superior wrestling in this one, slamming a gritty Maggiore on multiple occasions. Maggiore showed solid Jiu Jitsu, however the Pagliaro dubbed "Killer" was relentless with takedowns. The last slam looked to injure Maggoire's shoulder.

170 -- Austin Judge def. Kevin Tjaden by submission due to strikes at :50 of first round.

- Tjaden was gritty, however Judge refused to be denied, getting Tjaden to the ground and landing some heavy shots to the Montanan, who was forced to tap.

AMATEUR

140 -- Brandon Cluever def. Matt Wolf by submission due to armbar at 1:20 of first round.

- Two great guys and gritty fighters. Although the fight was short in time, it was an active one, both fighting to scramble for position. "The Butcher" managed to gain the win after sinking in a tight armbar. Wolf fought valiantly to escape but it was deep. Both set the tone with the fight and have promise to grow.

170 -- Gary Granholm def. Justin Trangsrud by split decision.

- The bloodiest fight of the night, as both wound up cut in this one. As the scorecard indicates, the fight was a widely back and forth affair.

145 -- Loren Jones def. Dylan Duarte by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).

- First thing to note here, Jones is extremely tall (6'2) for the featherweight division. He also has some unorthodox striking. Definitely keep your eyes on him. This seemed a grappler vs. striker fight, Duarte pressed heavily for the takedown, but could not overcome Jones's six inch reach advantage. I definitely want to see both fight again.

185 -- Chris Santiago def. Chris Hicks by disqualification (illegal choke) in second round.

- Two things to note here.. Hicks showed to weigh ins the day after the official weigh in, and BADLY missed weight. We are talking well over double figures. This wasn't a short notice addition either. Hicks had been scheduled for RFE for well over a month. If that isn't enough, he put an illegal choke (called the rape choke) on Santiago five times before being disqualified. I was highly disappointed in Mr. Hicks lack of professionalism to say the least.

155 — Justus Sahlstrom vs. Travis Sykes ends in majority draw (29-27, 28-28, 28-28).

-RFE 2 may have a rematch on the horizon. Sahlstrom seemed to take the first round, however to me Sykes won 2 and 3. What cost him the win was getting docked a point for punching Sahlstrom in the face while atop him. It wasn't dirty by any means, and if pro would have been perfectly legal, however Minnesota AC rules permit punches above the ribs. One point deduction can truly be the difference between a win and a loss in MMA, and while I had Travis winning decisively, the point deduction haunted him.

All in all, twas a great night of fights. The crowd was really into the action and the 1,100 seat venue was at about 98 percent capacity. RFE has a solid base for growth from this.Taken from Jay Pagliaro's FB page
