What's Tommy "The Farmboy" Speer been up to?

Well, farming, of course. And when you live on a dairy farm, even when the crops are out, the work never truly stops.

But Speer is entering his slowest time year on his family's dairy farm outside of Elgin. So he's looking to fight.

The UFC veteran didn't have to wait long to secure another big bout. That said, it was a little longer than he anticipated waiting.

Speer accepted a short-notice bout a few weeks ago to compete for Titan Fighting Championships. But that organization's 25th event was cancelled due to rain -- it was scheduled to be an outdoor show.

That left Speer without a fight. Until this week.

Speer stepped up on short notice again, and this time it's very short notice. Speer will be fighting Saturday in Colorado for Made For War MMA (MFW).

The event takes place in Castle Rock, and Speer said his fight he has been told the fights will stream live at www.mfwmma.com

Speer will take on Jeremy Kimball (6-3) of Colorado in a middleweight bout. UFC vet Joe Riggs is fighting in the night's main event against Josh Cavan (6-1) for the MFW welterweight title.

Speer's opponent, Kimball, enters the bout on a two-fight winning streak. Kimball is 2-0 so far in 2012 with wins over Jason Lee and Richard Villa.

Speer (18-6) enters the fight coming off one of his most impressive wins since leaving the UFC. He downed UFC veteran Kevin Burns at a Brutaal show in Iowa last May.

Since his release from the UFC in 2008, Speer is 9-3 overall. His only three losses came to Beau Baker, Ryan Ford and Mats Nilsson. He holds wins over notable Minnesota fighters like Tat Romero, Ashkan Morvari and Travis Perzynski.

Speer said he hopes to keep very active over the next few months. His management believes a win or two will secure him a spot with a major promotion.

Injuries have hampered a few matchups recently for our local fighters.

Minnesota's Nate Schut was scheduled for a bout on Oct. 20 at Myth in Maplewood. He was set to take on Cody Pasquale, who has been out of action since his impressive win over Ben Neumann at Target Center.

But Schut recently suffered an injury and was forced to pull out of the fight.

A replacement fighter to take on Pasquale has not yet been announced.

However, the CFX/Brutaal Myth show did add a fight this week, and it's a pair of ranked big guys.

Mahmoud Aburia has made a habit of calling out fighters. He recently called out Danyelle Williams on Facebook, and now he's getting the matchup he asked for.

Williams and Aburia will meet at Myth on Oct. 20. Williams enters the fight with a 3-2 record as a pro. He's ranked No. 10 at 205.

Aburia, who trains at Crystal Fight Club, is 2-0 and ranked No. 6 at heavyweight.

Minnesota standout Logan Clark also fell victim to injury recently. He was set to take on UFC vet Lucio Linhares in Finland during Fight Festival 32. But Clark recently pulled out of the fight due to injury.

However, another local product has stepped up to take his place.

Jacob Doerr now will be fighting Linhares this weekend. Doerr enters the fight 6-2 overall and ranked No. 2 in Minnesota at 205 pounds.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, Minnesota standout Dan Moret will try his hand at a new sport. Moret is making his pro boxing debut at Driller/SEG's card at Canterbury Park in Shakopee.

Moret is 3-0 in MMA and ranked No. 4 in Minnesota at 155 pounds.

Fellow MMA standout Nick Compton was scheduled to compete on this card as well, but he recently pulled out.

Minnesota boxing sensation Robert Brant, who has been responsible for helping countless MMA fighters improve their striking technique over the past year, will be in action that night trying to preserve his unbeaten record.
